Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI)
As an independent, third-party Manufacturing and Industrial Consultancy, Grant Lloyd provides rigorous, on-site Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) services to ensure your finished orders meet exact quality, packaging, and regulatory standards before dispatch
Verify product excellence before final shipment and payment
The final step in securing your supply chain occurs right before your goods leave the Vendor. A Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) – also known as a Final Random Inspection (FRI) – takes place when your order is 100% completed and at least 80% fully packed in export cartons.
By conducting a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI), you confirm that finished goods comply strictly with your design specifications, safety regulations, and purchase order terms. Consequently, this final gatekeeping check prevents non-conforming or defective items from being shipped. As a result, implementing a PSI protects your financial investment, reduces international return costs, and safeguards your brand reputation with end consumers.
What Does a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) Cover?
During a PSI evaluation, a Grant Lloyd consultant selects random product samples directly from the Vendor’s inventory. Using a tailored checklist, our consultant evaluates key parameters across these vital areas:
Quantity Verification
Verifying total produced and packed quantities against purchase orders to ensure accurate fulfilment.

Workmanship & Visual Finish
Inspecting items for cosmetic defects, surface imperfections, material consistency, and colour accuracy.
Functionality & Operational Testing
Conducting real-time tests on product operation, assembly mechanics, and electrical or safety controls.

Data Measurement & Specifications
Checking exact dimensions, weights, capacity ratings, and physical specs against technical artwork.
Packaging, Marking & Labelling
Inspecting inner/outer cartons, barcodes, shipping marks, user manuals, and regional compliance labels.

Transit Packaging Testing
Performing on-site drop tests, carton stack testing, and humidity checks to ensure packaging durability during transport.
Why Schedule a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI)?
Integrating a final random inspection into your quality assurance workflow provides vital operational benefits:
Risk Mitigation Before Payment
Ensure goods meet your quality standards before issuing final balance payments or releasing letters of credit.
Reduction of Costly Returns
Catch defects on the Vendor’s floor where rework is manageable, rather than after international customs clearance.
Protection of Brand Reputation
Ensure that end consumers receive flawless products, protecting your retail rankings and brand trust.
Verification of Statutory Compliance
Confirm that products adhere strictly to safety, chemical, and labelling regulations in your destination market.
Recognised Sampling Standards and Comprehensive Reports
We perform all PSI evaluations using the internationally recognised ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 (ISO 2859-1) statistical sampling standard alongside agreed Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) parameters. Therefore, you receive an objective, statistically valid evaluation of your production lot’s overall conformity.
Immediately upon completing the inspection, our on-site team provides a daily summary outlining the preliminary accept/reject verdict. Shortly thereafter, you receive a detailed final report featuring comprehensive defect classifications, high-resolution photographs, and actionable engineering insight.
