PFAS Regulation in the EU and the UK
The EU uses several regulatory frameworks to manage PFAS, with the Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (EU REACH) serving as the primary system.
The UK was previously subject to EU REACH while it was a member of the European Union. Since the end of the Brexit transition period, Great Britain has implemented its own version of the REACH regime, compliance with which is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This regime applies to chemical substances manufactured in or imported into Great Britain (GB), whether as standalone substances, in mixtures, or contained in articles. Substances within scope must be registered with the HSE.
